nikon-binoculars

Nikon is one of the oldest manufactures of high quality optics that is well known everywhere in the world.

The history of Nikon starts from 25 July 1917 when there were three optical companies.

Later they became one company known as Nippon Kōgaku which means Japan Optics.

Since 1988 the corporation changed its name to Nikon after introducing first cameras to the world.

Today Nikon is a multinational Japanese corporation headquartered in Tokyo and specialized in production of high quality optical devices, such as camera lenses, cameras, digital SLR cameras, photography enlargers, microscopes, binoculars, rifle scopes.

You can hardly find anyone today who doesn’t know about Nikon cameras, binoculars or other Nikon optical products.

Especially, it’s not a secret that Nikon is specialized in digital photography.

Nikon corporation was the first corporation to produce digital SLRs for NASA for Space Shuttles since 1991.

Nikon now has manufacturing facilities in Thailand, Indonesia. It has over 8,000 employees. Nikon lenses are not just lenses.

It’s a brand very well known in the world for its quality. Especially Nikon F series SLRs cameras were one of the best small cameras used by professionals.

Nikon still is still producing digital SLR cameras, excellent lenses and many other accessories for professionals.

Nikon produces high-end professional digital cameras, midrange cameras, entry-level cameras for consumers, compact cameras, movie cameras, underwater cameras, mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, bridge cameras, binoculars, camera lenses known as Nikkor.

Nikkor brand was introduced in 1932 and still it uses this brand name for its highest-quality imaging optics.

Nikon has F-mount type of lenses, Nikon S rangefinder, Nikkor SW for large format photography, Nikkor W, Nikkor M and more.

Today Nikon offers a wide range of binoculars including entry level, medium class and high class optics. Prices are different.

You can buy a decent quality Nikon binoculars for around $50, you can buy medium class for around $150-$250 and you can also buy a high class binoculars with ED glass for around $900 or even for $2,000.

Nikon has products for every group of people, both amateurs and professionals.

What distinguishes Nikon Binoculars from other Binoculars

Of course, the brand name is not the last aspect in choosing binoculars.

Nikon has long been a leading global manufacturer of photo and optical equipment.

The proven reputation of the manufacturer is the first thing that draws your attention to the Nikon binoculars.

Consumer characteristics of Nikon binoculars vary depending on the series.

Binoculars for fishermen and sailors are sure to be waterproof, and tourist models – as light and compact as possible.

Binoculars for astronomical observations should have big lenses for better light transmission and must be tripod adaptable.

And binoculars for daytime observation will prove to be the best if they have anti-reflective coating.

Each series of Nikon binoculars is focused on solving certain problems, so choosing the optimal model will not be difficult.

A clear distinction between series of binoculars depending on the application – is another advantage of Nikon over its competitors.

Best Nikon Prices

Speaking of Nikon binoculars, one can not help but mention their cost.

You can buy Nikon binoculars for little money, and optical devices that are very expensive.

It all depends on the optical characteristics and design features.

High-grade BaK-4 glass with a phase-correcting coating will be significantly more expensive than enlightened glass optics from BK-7.

Completely waterproof case with a high class of protection against penetration of water will also cost more than a conventional rubberized case.

In order not to overpay for those characteristics that you do not need, I recommend contacting me and asking questions before making your purchase.

This will help you choose Nikon binoculars that are right for you and help in solving any of your tasks.

Nikon has the following types of binoculars:

  • EDG binoculars
  • Nikon Monarch
  • Nikon Prostaff
  • Nikon Aculon
  • Nikon High Grade (monoculars)
  • Nikon Compact
  • Nikon Marine

Nikon Aculon Binoculars – From $69 up to $179 – Cheap Class

Let’s start with Nikon Aculon binoculars. Nikon Aculon has different configurations, such as:

  • Nikon Aculon 7×35
  • Nikon Aculon 8×42
  • Nikon Aculon 10×42
  • Nikon Aculon 7×50
  • Nikon Aculon 10×50
  • Nikon Aculon 12×50
  • Nikon Aculon 16×50
  • Nikon Aculon 10-22×50
  • Nikon Aculon 10×25

Nikon Aculon binoculars are made of durable polycarbonate materials and aluminum. They are dustproof, fog proof and waterproof.

Nikon Aculon binoculars feel very solid in hands and everything works smooth when it comes to focus mechanism.

Nikon Aculon binoculars come in different size and weight that can fit the needs of almost every group of people, both professionals and amateurs.

Nikon Aculon binoculars are not like cheap Chinese optical devices.

Once you take it you will feel the difference between Nikon brand and cheap optical devices from unknown manufacturers. Nikon Aculon binoculars are tripod adaptable.

Focus mechanism wheel has rubber coating and smooth rotation which makes the binocular very handy for you as a user. Diopter wheel has a smooth rotation too.

Most Aculon binoculars have antireflective coating for improved light transmission resulting in brighter and colorful image.

Nikon Aculon binoculars have special Eco-glass lenses which is a Nikon brand of high quality optical components.

Nikon Aculon binoculars have porro prism which is different from roof prism binoculars. Porro prism binoculars are a little bulky but they deliver 3 dimensional image.

I personally like porro prism binoculars way more than roof prism optical instruments.

If 3 dimensional image is not so important for you then you better choose other Nikon binoculars from roof binoculars.

Roof binoculars are always more lightweight than porro binoculars. I wouldn’t say the difference between roof and porro image is huge but if you compare them you will see the difference.

Fortunately, Nikon offers several types of Nikon Aculon optical devices and you can choose the one that satisfies all your needs.

If you need compact lightweight binoculars choose one with objective lens of 25-35mm.

Nikon Aculon binoculars are the cheapest among Nikon optical products. They all have BAK-4 prism but quality of optics and lens coating is not the best Nikon can deliver.

In fact, Aculon is a cheap class binoculars. But cheap class doesn’t mean image quality is bad. It’s not like Chinese binoculars from unknown manufacturers.

Aculon binoculars deliver good image quality, but compared to other Nikon binoculars like Nikon Monarch or Nikon EDG or Prostaff binoculars, Aculon is a cheap class optical devices.

Some Aculon binoculars have objective lens of a small size like 25 or 30mm which means binocular is lightweight.

Some binoculars have objective lens of larger size like 42 or 50mm for a better light transmission.

Nikon Aculon binoculars may be used for hunting, general use, safaris, sea trips.

    Hi Adam,
Thank you for your time in providing us with quality information.
I want to purchase my first binocular and i stay off from buying Nikon 10-22×50 due to your advice, that is when I think about very logical.
I need them for general use such is hiking, bird watching, lake coast waching ect.
So, my idea is between Aculon 12×50 and Aculon 16×50 or maybe Prostaff 5 with same numbers. Wath do you thing about it, what is your advice and did i get it wrong?

    Thank you wery much.

    • Adam says:

      Hi Marko,

If you are on a tight budget I recommend these two:

      Nikon Aculon A211 10×42 Binoculars
      Nikon ACULON A211 12×50 Binocular

But remember that the higher the magnification the narrower is the field of view. In that respect 10×42 has a wider field of view.

Nikon PROSTAFF 5 10×50 is also a good choice.

I would recommend this one: Nikon Action Extreme 10×50

It is a higher class than Aculon.

My top recommended one is this Nikon MONARCH 5, 10×42 Binocular. It delivers excellent image quality thanks to ED Glass. It is best suited for nature observations and bird watching.

Answering your question exactly, I recommend as follows:

Instead of Aculon 12×50 I recommend Nikon Action 12×50 EX Extreme All-Terrain Binocular

Instead of Aculon 16×50 I recommend Action 16×50 EX Extreme All-Terrain Binocular

      Or

      Nikon PROSTAFF 5 12×50
